Options trading hours bunnings burleigh

While the temperature is very warm outside this store is air conditioned! The Hardware Cafe is busy with customers and the plant shop is thriving! Plenty of self help checkouts and there are plenty of sales assistants available to make your shopping easier. Do you have more specific information about the location of Bunnings? Bunnings, which makes giving directions tricky. The only major problem is getting out of the store on a busy Saturday morning. As the store is on the corner of a busy highway it is often a long wait to get out of the driveway to the main Streets. With so few reviews, your opinion of Bunnings could be huge. The store is extremely clean with polished cement floors.

Probably the largest Bunnings I have ever visited! Tools everywhere, gardening supplies for everyone, machinery, mowers, tents, plumbing supplies. Ppt here unless someone gets fired or transferred. Additional staff members were supposedly going to be hired because of the build up of pallets in the yard caused by decreased fill rates due to the multitasking now required from fill team members. Coles retail managers have a different way of doing things and more are coming through to management after the take over. Help out during peak times. Most of the people I talked to in the store had only been there for a few weeks which was good as it made for an not difficult transition as there were few entrenched workers as tends to be the case in bunnings. The Bunnings way is obtuse and self centred.

Yes, I did had some hours cut off. Backs about rostering, objectives. Bunnings will not offer any hours to casuals once February, march onwards comes around. Clearly a Bunnings manager. If you risk no pay at times then best be for your benefit, not someone elses. Remember each store has a budget that they adhese to. Back to the matter at hand, the employment of casuals we have some of them at my store, some are kids, some adults trying to survive with any job, but its hard when they dont get hours for weeks on end.

They said they could give me work at other sites, but then I argued that it would be like being a casual, but paid at perm rates. This sentence does not make any sense. Dunno why, but a few people at Bunnings put me off. The ideals of a casual workforce is to enable businesses, or Bunnings for that matter, to flex their workforce up and down inline with SALES. Pay peanuts, get monkeys. All the casuals in my store are lucky if they get at least 1 shift every month. The original post was regarding casual employment. If it is only work you can get then become self employed. Our complex manager used to get down on his hands and knees and start scraping the floor in front of him to show how ridiculous he was as every time he came in he looked for bits of gum on the floor.

As a single person all I can say is what a load of crap. But they are flawed because you cannot predict or validate the customers who simply walk out the door in frustration because they cannot find anyone to serve them. Price comes down so does standard to compete, hardly ethical. Your shifts depend on sales. Then one day I was called into a meeting. Some have 15 hours days due to this. Bunnings and I get my weekends too.

That tends to happen when employers chew people up and then spit them out. Bunnings cutting back casual hours in an attempt to make budgets. Bunnings and paint a dirty picture of the OP. We all fell for that one, month after month with no extra staff. Similiar to what Qantas Ground staff were striking over as they are being replaced by casuals through a new company called Qantas Ground Services who offer no certainty to employees. We are talking 17 years ago. The casual hours is an issue and it was for me coming to the end of my time there.

It is what is being conveyed that is important. These are invariable always as a result of an individual leader, not head office. Seems like you also have a doctorate in economics. BOH, send our customers away to other shops, worry about other team members employment issues, think their CEO is a liar, or simply want to have a bitch, that makes it harder for those of us in ANY business, not just Bunnings. Bring on the competition I say! The store was told they had a virtually unlimited budget and went on a hiring spree, and were told a month later they have to cut back big time on budget. The whole workforce is going this way and it is a mass discrimination of single people.

Way more than I want. The employer can offer shifts as it pleases, or terminate their employment with no notice. Of course this makes the manager look like an idiot, and then they are told their unlimited budget is cut seemingly without reason. First of all can I ask how you would rate your work performance? Ok i am employed with bunnings the time period you are refuring 2 is straight after christmass this is normal. Your shifts can be cancelled 2 hours prior to the scheduled shifts.

You have until the 16th of December so hop to it! So many times the previous manager promises to put a useful casual on Ppt, but then forgets before the new manager comes in. Bunnings for 3 years. Last weekend John Gillam Bunnings CEO was interviewed and made the comment that in these bad economic times they should be focusing on customer service more than targetting profits. For those of you lucky enough to have a job, be thankful in the current climate. Ok i am employed with bunnings the time period you are refuring 2 is straight after christmass this is normal for any casual workers they prepare for the christmass rush then it dies why do you think you are getting paid a higher rate and mate im casual i have 3kids and yes bills im on 24. Wesfarmers purchases the hardware chain from Howard Smith. This paragraph is too long and has no real point. So you would want to live close to work or painfully long day indeed. You have been with them for 11 years and never been offered permanent part time or full time?

No worries, thats true. Granted some of them may know a little if there dad was a builder or plumber. There are better jobs out there. They model themselves on Walmart. But they have just posted an ad on their site for casuals. Big W with the staff chewing gum with their mouths wide open and more interested in talking to each other than working. Let me finish this post with a quote Scott. The best stores were the small ones where you had to work hard to maintain the area.

As others have said, the downside of casual employment is less job security. Head office would have to know the amount of people being recruited and what the cost would be budget wise, yet they wasted all these peoples time anyway. Anyone heard the latest news about management reshuffle? Bunnings, and many of the staff complain to me that there is not enough staff on the floor anymore to serve all the customers. So you get 11. Some stores are good and others bad. Bunnings who have shares in wesfarmers consider bunnings part of the wesfarmers group.

If you were like me 1 of 4 people out of the entire 250 odd employees in the store who knew it then you were set for shifts. IMO something they should consider. Being casual is just a waste of time really, managers wrongly assume because you are doing uni you are super flexible when the opposite is true. You are not guaranteed your job after you are back from your unpaid leave. He swiped a card when he should have pushed a button apparently and they made such a fuss you would have though he stole a truck. But then I told I was off to become a doctor. Thats what honesty and integrity does they do come back! Without so much as a call from management.

Bunnings will give you no or few hours after you are hired. Then, almost everything I ask for turns out to be a problem. The problem with bunnings not is they have so many useless entrenched workers that they are scared to hire people in ppt roles. Home Hardware where although prices are a little higher at least the staff there are quick to offer assistance, know their products, and can give the correct advice when asked. Is your job at Bunnings your only job? If you tell lies you become a used car salesman saying anything to get a sale. It gives the shits to the full and part timers to, because suddenly they are working more weekends with less staff so their workload is higher and more stressful.

Because there are staff members who cannot afford to travel this distance due to either time or cost constraints, it is believed by the staff that managers will place the unwanted staff at these stores in order to purge them from the workplace. That sucks I would leave as well. And some of the stores are real shit holes. Gillam out to be a liar in my opinion but only time will tell. And in case someone asks, yes I work for them, work fulltime, work in power gardening and it takes more that two weeks to adequately understand and advise people on the products. My advice to anyone get permanent work, do not even both with casual.

Thats right, I understand also the situation the managers are in, they are a middleman being told one thing one moment, and one the other. But it is Coles being led down the Wesfarmers philosophy not the Bunnings one. Granted, some of the stuff that has been discussed sounds like potentially poor management, but folks look around. In defense of the young 3IC he worked like a dog, always seemed to draw the short straw for public holidays. June 10 when the BOH finishes, any hours owed by the team, will be charged to your stores wage line regardless. All to save some money, well it has blown up in the face of the Area Manager as he is under pressure too, good he is a delusional muppet anyway, he has saved money on wages but the store standards are utter crap now. But I hated working at Bunnings in South Sydney. Bunnings employs more than 750 staff on the Gold Coast at its four stores in Biggera Waters, Nerang, Southport and Burleigh.

They usually pay a lot better and you usually take your time in the stores. Less reputable staff members also used this multitasking as an excuse to slack off and do far less filling. Therefore, it does seem slightly skewed. They may keep that person on but the casual decides only to do the bare minimum from now on. At one of my casual jobs they offered PPT but only 12hrs a week. Although the rate is lower it is a foot in the door and a gauranteed income. Christmas casual, I managed to escape before the induction day as they were desperate for staff. Most of the staff were not happy with the way the place was run, they had just lost their GM and ops manager and we had one of the highest theft rates in Australia.

When you screw over the decent workers, they can find work elsewhere as they probably have good referees on their resume from a prior good working record. Also sorry I meant since coles has been taken over by wesfarmers they have been becoming more similar. Do you realise whilst they cant be bothered turning up to work, drank too much the night before, or are just lazy a business pays them to stay at home AS WELL as paying for someone to do their shift? So, in the space of 15 mins I went from doing my job to being out of a job. So the government actually encourages them to hire people they have no work for. Anyway, I was told they were happy with my work but I and others were getting the flick. Each store is allocated a set budget. My local Bunnings recently got rid of a large number of casuals. The cause of this is that you are too old if you are over 21, you are too expensive and not only that the government pays them to take on the young ones.

In the interest of transparency, I work for Masters and these opinions are my own. Hi all Bunnings casuals that have lost hours over the last few months. Usually these guys are the casuals and can make up the bulk of the register and shelf stockers. For you mate, you should think long and hard about whether you continue your partnership with Bunnings. As time went on less and less casuals were put on as head office tightened the budgets. PPT after 6 months. However, there is no security of tenure for anyone.

The worst were the ones who would never make budget and for some reason keep operating like that month to month year to year. So you were asked to train someone and be rewarded by having this person take over your position and you lose the job. The casuals I worked with were pissed off because they have had their hours drastically reduced. Mid January anyway, I quit before then. But then they cut back and I ended up having to travel to other stores to get hours. More likely Bunnings would cut the majority of people when someone has a knee jerk reaction to cut wages for the month. Hi Kazooie yeah that never used to be a major problem in the past they had young guys but they were the ones being trained to take on other roles in the future, most of the people were over 20 and they never even had a nightfill crew. The DBS system is an antiquated program that gives department selling patterns so rosters are made up to cater for that. So naturally, I thought that the transition made sense and I would just keep doing my job as before, but only at another store.

Bunnings for 23 years, seen many poor decisions. Not for when things are tough etc as you claim. If remain silent you become a sheep. Some have second jobs as cleaners and the like. Otherwise what would be the point of offering shares as an incentive, the only reason you give out shares is so employees have a stake in the financial success of the company. Bunnings Queensland operations manager Brian Menke admitted the hours of casual staff were cut when they were not needed. So why should i owe hrs when it was there decision and not mine, but if i work overtime, yes that bad word, they owe me. May have saved money but the quality has decreased. Have you read back to yourself what you have written here?

There is no reference to this in the EBA, for those who are SDA members, you will know what i mean. So when sales is down, you will lose hours. Some of them actually knew what they were doing and could answer questions correctly. Last night my brother called me as he had just been employed and said he had been told there were no hours for any casual in the store, and there was no timeline which he could tell they would have any more hours, could be weeks or months. Xmas for PT work, take it immediately. PT were given shifts when the budget allowed. You sir are a genius! May have changed, anyway not many go out of their way to do this.

TMs so that they can sack them at will for the flimsiest excuse. Sorry typing error, my first store was next to a bbc we closed down so I know bbc was taken over. What kind of business hires a shitload of people one month and then gives them no hours the next? Their service is amazing. The lack of permanant work creates housing problems and forces you to either live with parents or rely on a partner if you have one. The management micro manage their team members and are solely focused on budgets. As an ex Bunnings TM, I was a full timer. They can give you 1 hour or 20 or no hours a week. Bunnings does, give them anything so they will come back and spend.

Besides, if I did make a mistake, the supervisor also made one as picks are to be checked by a second person. That was when I was casual. Also in some ways the nurses in Victoria who will be replaced by unskilled workers but also split shifts, again same as Qantas temps. Masters, you seem to have a solid understanding of their business model. Also the reason for the lack of hours recently is not a seasonal change, it is due to mismanagement. Get the hell out. It is hard to determine the subject under criticism and there is no punctuation. You pretty much have to wait for someone to get fired or quit to get onto ppt though.

Another warning from me. SDA page and I am locked out. They have enough clout with governments that they can redesign traffic conditions to funnel traffic into their stores off main roads. Bunnings and the same thing happened all the time. At the end of the day the parent group Wesfarmers mantra says it all, to make money for shareholders. Anybody who is fooled into thinking that bunnings is the saviour of the local areas is greatly deluded. As well as those that are paid to stand around doing nothing, hiding from customers, losing sales that could result in money to put back into wages? The national standard for 38hrs in the fair work Australia literature guarantees your hrs. The sentence goes for too long.

Part of the problem with bunnings currently is its focus on short term budget goals, and the shift towards supermarket management styles. Now I have struggled for 17 months financially and now mentally. This happened to me but not with Bunnings. They really need to rethink their advertising of staff knowing about products if they want young kids as their mules. So you can either get shares in the property group, or in Wesfarmers, not in Bunnings hardware stores directly. So I am wondering has anyone experienced similar situations within bunnings or related retail organisations. At that time I had another job 24hrs a week and no weekends, one of the coordinators at the interview indicated that I should give up that job when working at Bunnings, which is what I did.

When I first started there where casuals all over the place, plenty of shifts and during busy times extra shifts to pick up if you wanted. This was also shot down even though I had worked steadily the previous 18mths. An interesting reply, a good team approach that is supportive and helpful. How many businesses have a bucket of money for use on the grumbling customers, those who misuse products and expect a factory warranty to cover it? If you are honest you get the respect from the customers, incidently a few of my turn aways have resulted in positive comments on have your say cards and internet have your say replies, some comments, included the words, honest, trustworthy and having positive knowledge. Bunnings signs you up then gives you no hours and you cannot work for the competition. It really grates on ur nerves when you see incompetent people who talk it up by taking credit from the work of others. The knee jerk reactions of mass hiring and mass redundancy here are going to lose bunnings a lot of staff and leave a sour taste in the mouth of casual employees, and perhaps send them to the competition. Store management were told by head office they had pretty much an unlimited budget because masters was opening next door.

Maybe 2 weeks to amonth to get familiar. How do these people survive? Hey mate, I empathize with you. We all know sunday has penalty rates so how many casuals were only available for sundays? Turns out it was almost right behind where I was standing. Maybe this is a naive question as I believe in honesty and treating people with decency, but why do you think they have an aversion to being forthright? This may hurt them the worst as Bunnings desperately wants to hang onto skilled employees as much as possible. At the end of my time they could have put me in half the store and I would have been able to help most people.

Helps avoid paying superannuation. Although as a casual employee you acknowledge there is some uncertainty in your positions stability it should be the responsibility of an employer to maintain a team small enough to provide some hours to casual employees, but large enough to meet the demand of peak seasons. The employee can quit on the spot too. TAKEN over by Bunnings. October due to climate downturn. And the whole safety aspect has just gotten way out of control, people really just use it as a way to rack up enough points to fire people. Here we go again, due to downturn. Sorry for the rant! Potentially one of the casuals or PPT at your store may be better suited to your role than you.

Now he has very limited employment after being a full time casual. This is done to stop you signing up at Masters. Except for exceptional circumstances like nitefill, stocktake and relays happening. There is no contract that forces the workplace to give you any hours. When budgets are squeezed then shifts get reduced back to those hours that may be far lower than the average hours previously worked by the employee. In the past the stability one found in casual employment was due to their being clear goals with regard to budget and staffing levels. One component of global sourcing is to have local manufacturers bring down their prices. They gave them the ok to hire a heap of people then told them to can them the next month. Bunnings has always been publicly listed, the change in direction has been a recent change.

Its time to find another job somewhere else. Hahahahaha yeah our area manager seems to fit that picture. So I have transferred to a store with no hours from a store which had at least some hours for casual employment. Yep as casuals you have no obligations with your employer. In some ways I wish hardware house was still around even though they would run themselves into the ground again they would be better to work for than woolies. But still, this kind of thing has been going on and on within Bunnings and plenty of other retail environments for years. What does this achieve and what harm does being forthright do? PT worker who is going on holiday. Bunnings was acquired by Wesfarmers in 1994?

Anyone who knows how to use google can find out that the majority share owners of Masters is WOOLWORTHS, a company founded in Australia in 1924. As it was in the store I used to work in, the team member who was doing full time work at casual rates simply upped and left midweek when he got a job elsewhere, leaving a department effectively a FT position short for the rest of the roster cycle. Your many years working for bunnings has obviously clouded any abilties you may have had. The stuff up is more a head office stuff up than store level and coords are as gutted as team members, but they have been given their orders and have to deal with it as best they can. Australia; about 6 months after they drastically cut the hours of the casuals they already had, bad case of one hand not telling the other what was going on. Hear about this more and more, not Bunnings but generally speaking. SDA, who inform me I am now under the Bunnings award. Woolworths company and we saw similar things all the time. Woolies as a checkout operator, I was casual for 6 months before finally signing a contract last month. We were always told it was for the shareholder.

Health and Safety representative are the only two titles that come under this job description. Had they stayed and even been put on part time contracts there is no doubt things would be much better. BBC during the takeover. CASUAL, means casual guys. You must be a troll or work for the social media team at Bunnings. Full time and part time employees are given share options for Wesfarmers, Bunnings is a subsidiary of Wesfarmers.

Hi I am just wondering how many people working at bunnings have experienced this over the past few years. From the employers point of view having a large pool of casuals to draw from lessens the odds of being understaffed each day. HR people, some are really good and useful, but a very large number are useless. You have your FT to work business hours, and your casual to work all the other random shifts so that the FT people can live a normal life. Hard to fly with the eagles when you have to work with turkeys, only so much my managers can do! Bunnings is the biggest con that has been thrust at the consumer. Myer did this with a lot of the Christmas Casuals they hired; not many shifts offered after initial training according to posts on these forums. Where I work may not even exist by Christmas. My brother used to cover for his drunk boss all the time and the boss repaid him by dodging up his shift times so there was no overtime, and firing him over a couple of cents discount given to a staff member. The store only hired when needed and when I was hired it was with other new people so the environment was one of friendliness and encouragement.

If they mess around with casuals THAT much, how do they expect to hire anyone? Like you say people will understand, even though they are disappointed if you are forthright and there is a reason for their cuts. Can you claim that? The community projects are part of the great marketing con. Recently however I transferred to a store in SE Qld as I was told they would have a lot of hours available as a new Masters store of the Woolworths brand was being built down the road. They also make people take leave or use up banked hours etc.

Interesting that some are querying the bank of hours system. Have you also looked at availabilities of those casuals? If they try and play sport then Saturday is gone, so yes Friday night and Sunday are when they can work. At Coles over the past 12 months their treatment of casuals has also changed. Amazing, your here to read the comment, not critise the way it was written. It is the nature of casual. My advice of get a builder just pissed him off lol.

My advice for what it is worth is to forget about working for Bunnings. Instead of hiring a casual for a week for eg they many employ casuals day by day now. So much that the only aim is to get people in the door to spend, It has nothing to do with being a good comunity citizen. It is probably the most wasteful store in the region, however the most wasteful store seem to have a lot of the most useless staff. Walked in the next day and quit. Hiring people when you have no work for them is unethical no matter what loading you pay them, you cant take advantage of a loading if you are fired a couple of weeks after you start. Problem is the casuals who are hard working and looking for stable work are going to be shafted when jan feb comes and all the casuals are given no hours.

No, this is wrong. And the least hours they get is 15 hours a week, could be over 30 hrs a week when needed. Although if you show yourself to be multiskilled and available in a wide range of hours then you are more likely to get hours. Just on 17 months ago I joined Bunnings as a casual I was told there would be 20hrs a week maybe more not less. Because they could never roster efficiently. Another problem is you may be a great worker and get along with your current boss well, but then as your boss moves on you have to impress the next guy. When wheeling a trolly you need to play dodge the box as displays are placed randomly in walk ways. Customers are pissed off because even if they are lucky enough to find a team member to help them, chances are the TM they find is a school kid with zero knowledge. OP is coming from.

To compare Bunnings and Coles becoming more alike, yes probably. According to most of the replies from other bunnings casuals, this is what bunnings does. Only time it was less were the first 2 weeks I started, and one month in a year where I had no work. Before I left, I was in control of the Trade Counter, organizing shifts wages and deliverers of Trade product, so I become aware of some of the things Management got up to. Edit: this post was in response to comment by mightygee on the previous page. So instead of paying you from the time you start to the the time you finish they make you log off after one 4 hours shift then sign back hours later for a 2nd 4 hour shift. Bunnings is still a great place to work, originally I came over from a worse company, and they fired almost everyone after Christmas except management. Can you work accross more than one store as a casual at Bunnings?

As for your BOH comments. Students are happy to work every single Friday night as its one of the few times they are not studying. The problem at this store is that with so much money going around team members seem to think they are above work and become mock managers. No more casuals after Easter. This is were they then start to change my hours, working weekends, public holidays. It seems now that forecasting and maintaining adequate staff levels has gone by the wayside as budget decisions are being made without notice, and with little consideration of employees needs.

Due to a death in the family I moved 40 minutes away, and there was a Bunnings store just around the corner. There are no guaranteed hours a week. This comes after head office has decided the massive overspending by the store was excessive, a backflip as the previous month they had been told they had an unlimited budget. Part Time workers than Casual workers because you would be on contract. Service at bunnies has continually gone down hill for the last 4 years, to the point where it is now non existent. Store managers have been instructed to give casual staff 3 or 4 hour shifts only, and a maximum of 24 hours per fortnight. So disappointing and sad to see the older casuals just dropped like a sack of spuds, lot of us have grown up together and are friends. Some off them just bewilders me. You can either associate with bunnings staff or ignore them. At the time I was a key holder, coming an hour before the store opened to set up registers, and every third week it would be my turn to close up, management started when ever they felt like it, again they would leave when ever it suited them.

BUNNINGS has failed to deny reports of dozens of casual staff being turned away from its Nerang store and told to find other work. You will find it comes in cycles, so suddenly they will have a large wage budget and everyone gets hours, and then the budget falls and you get no hours. However it was a permanent FT position that I applied for. BOH system is designed to allow flexing of the workforce in line with sales patterns. Store management is under pressure, who I feel sorry for. It seems to me, that a lot of the commentary is Queensland based.
